The author's main point here is that there are unconscious ways that Privilege and power impact our lives and the lives of others. It keeps preventing and stopping us from taking a step forward and solving the issues. Small things like how we feel and react during certain situations that allow us to not respond properly. The author is trying to raise awareness and have the readers think and analyze how they are a part of it, in a way to help contribute to these differences.
Allen Johnson’s other main point here is that he's had enough of it all, we are not getting along with each other and it clearly shows. We have to engage in conversations and actions that challenge inequality, it is a collective group work and if we don't work together and engage it'll always be the same. In a way i believe he states his main points by trying to say that race, gender, sexual orientation ect, over time kind of programmed and constructed and fed people's thinking
I believe that Allen is right, we have to set differences and try to engage. I believe that people all over the world are doing better in engaging with one another, no matter the skin, social class and sexual orientation. There was a saying he said “ we don't have to love one another or even like one another to work together.” it’s a form of respect, support, kindness and because why not treat a random person the same way you want to be treated. For example, a random individual walks up to you and asks for directions to the nearest gas station. It doesn't take much to acknowledge and be kind to another person.
